Xylem announced two executive leadership appointments, effective July 1, both reporting to President and Chief Executive Officer Matthew Pine. Meredith Emmerich has been appointed EVP and President, Measurement and Control Solutions. Most recently, Emmerich served as EVP and President, Applied Water at Xylem. Joe Johnston will succeed Emmerich as EVP and President, Applied Water. Currently Senior Vice President and General Manager within Xylem's Water Solutions and Services segment, he most recently led the Global Dewatering business and has held leadership roles across Xylem since joining the company in 2019.

Houston is teaming up with Xylem to set up new flood-monitoring technology designed to alert officials to waterlogged roads, underpasses and streets during extreme weather events, Clara Hudson of The Wall Street Journal reported. Xylem's flood-intelligence platform reportedly collects data from physical sensors installed across the city. The water-tracking effort comes as Houston continues to deal with the long-term costs of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, and as the city navigates adverse weather while hosting the World Cup.
